The Taylor West Weber Park District was organized as a special service district in 2017 by the Weber County Commissioners and the Utah Lt. Governor’s office to provide park service to areas of unincorporated western Weber County. With the formation of the new Park District, the board recognized the need to develop a “road map” or Parks and Recreation Master Plan to help guide future decisions.
SOLUTIONS
J-U-B ENGINEERS, Inc. was hired to develop a comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan with the goal of establishing future recreational opportunities and amenities provided by the District to its residents. It also looks to establish desired park classifications, general park locations, and service areas.
- We first conducted a comprehensive inventory of existing parks and open space within and adjacent to the Park District’s boundaries, looking at existing zoning, and evaluating District demographics.
- Our GIS specialists entered the collected data into a GIS database and used it to perform robust analyses and develop maps.
- J-U-B’s public involvement specialists, The Langdon Group, designed and distributed a citizen survey to solicit input from the residents in the District regarding desired types of parks and open space, amenities, activities, programs or events, and funding mechanisms. This data was analyzed and incorporated into the final master plan document.
BENEFITS
As a result of the master planning efforts, the District is working to establish new neighborhood and community parks as development occurs in the area. The master plan serves as an organized and thoughtful approach to recommending park and trail improvements, recreation priorities, and identifying the citizens’ perceptions and desires for recreation amenities and recreation programming.
